Primary Care (CPR) 

Primary Care focuses on helping in life-threatening situations. This course teaches simple action plans that work in all emergency situations. The course provides a solid foundation for helping others.

We learn theory, practice individual skills, and combine them into complete responses through scenario training.

The course covers 9 essential skills:

  • Scene safety assessment
  • Using protective equipment
  • Primary assessment of casualties
  • Adult CPR
  • Using AED devices during adult resuscitation
  • Controlling severe bleeding
  • Treating shock
  • Spinal injury first aid
  • Helping choking adults

Duration: Approximately 5 hours of classroom instruction plus 2 hours self-study

This course gives you the confidence and skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, whether diving-related or in everyday life.

Secondary Care (First Aid) 

Secondary Care teaches you to handle accident situations that don't cause immediate life threat. This course can be completed together with Primary Care or separately. A current emergency first aid certification is required to participate.

Secondary Care course covers:

  • Injury assessment
  • Illness assessment
  • Bandaging and wound care
  • Splinting fractures and dislocations

Duration: Approximately 3 hours classroom instruction plus 1 hour self-study

Creating Confidence to Care

CPR & AED Course

The CPR & AED course teaches basic resuscitation skills. You'll also learn how to use a defibrillator during resuscitation efforts.

  • Adult chest compressions
  • Adult CPR (compressions and rescue breathing)
  • Adult resuscitation with AED device

This focused course gives you the essential skills to respond in cardiac emergency situations and choking incidents across all age groups.

Perfect for those who want to focus specifically on life-saving resuscitation techniques, or as a refresher course for maintaining CPR certification.

EFR Refresher Course 

Time to refresh your CPR and first aid skills? Do you hold a CPR or First Aid certificate from another training organization? If so, you are eligible to attend the Emergency First Response Refresher course. Plus, you can get Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training at the same time you refresh your CPR skills.

EFR first aid courses are valid for 24 months. You can renew your certification by taking the refresher course for each specific course. Refresher courses are shorter than the original courses and can be repeated every two years. You don't need to retake the entire original course.

Refresher course includes:

  • Skills practice from the original course
  • Final exam from the original course
  • Self-study component before attending the refresher course

Who should take refresher courses:

  • Anyone with expiring EFR certification
  • Divers maintaining certification for Rescue Diver prerequisites
  • Those wanting to keep emergency response skills current

Emergency First Response Instructor Course

Share life-saving knowledge and teach others how to respond in emergency situations. The PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) Instructor course prepares you to teach EFR Primary Care, Secondary Care, CPR & AED, and other Emergency First Response courses.

This course is an excellent choice for dive professionals and anyone who wants to teach first aid and CPR skills in a professional or community setting.

What You'll Receive

Upon successful completion, you'll earn the PADI Emergency First Response Instructor certification, allowing you to teach PADI EFR first aid and CPR courses and issue EFR certifications to your students. 

The EFR Instructor certification is also an important step toward becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) and is an excellent addition to the qualifications of any dive professional.
